MINI MOVIE:

Photograph by Cody Fry

Animation and storyboarding has been a profession I admired greatly from a young age. For my Advanced Computer Applications final, we were to create a motion graphic mini-movie using a song. I chose to do a favorite of mine: “Photograph” by Cody Fry. This song in particular follows a narrative of capturing and living within a golden moment of time, its essence drawing on prose and inescapable imagery.

It started with journaling and blocking out the story with the lyrics. A collage aesthetic was chosen for the story, thus giving the video texture, as if the audience can feel the imagery. Additionally, a warm toned color palette was applied to all the images due to the lyric’s “golden” diction.

Then production moved into locating images and objects for the story. Textures included glitter, ripped paper, adding dotted gradients, and a “printed” type to feel antique. I tried to create shots within the video that could be stand alones; the opening thumbnail was composed of all of the visuals from the music video.
